Symptoms usually occur within a few weeks and the most common are:
- Anemia produces pallor, fatigue, shortness of breath and tachycardia. It can also be a loss of appetite and weight. Is produced by tumor invasion of the bone marrow.
- Sometimes bleeding are caused by the decrease in platelets. They are serious when the number of platelets less than 10,000 per ml, and will not occur if the decline is not very high (50,000 per ml). Cerebral hemorrhage can be a complication in these cases. The causes, so far, are unknown to the majority of leukemias. Despite this, a known correlation between Epstein Barr virus and a form of acute lymphocytic leukemia, or ionizing radiation and disease.
It is not known why neither the mechanism of normal cells of the blood changes to a production of leukemia cells. What is known is that there is an alteration in cellular level of DNA that makes such a change occurs.
